The Ferry District Commissioners and managers reviewed the committee’s recommendations and made the final selection on May 28. An esteemed committee of Island residents was invited to review the names suggested and return with each of their top 3. Name Selection The boat renaming request was sent out to everyone in May. Silver Eel is available for charter when not in use and available crews exist. Other runs are designed to match up with trains that existing car ferry runs do not match. Due to limited reserved seating and the ticket pricing difference between Silver Eel and Munn/Race Point tickets cannot be used on the Silver Eel. Commuter tickets are available and restricted to morning and afternoon commuter runs. (Plus a transaction service fee of $1.) Ideas about how best to plant the berm in order to stabilize and beautify it were tossed about. FIFD used the majority of that sand to create a covered and graded berm between the high tide line and the rear parking area. This past winter, the Fishers Island Ferry District (FIFD) dredged the entrance channel to Silver Eel Cove yielding over 2500 cubic yards of clean sand.
